Happy Summer & My Extended Vacation

As we begin the 4th of July weekend, the traditional start of summer, I think about how my “summer” actually got a head start back in May. I decided to write this post to explain my absence from blogging and social media for the better part of May and June . . . and to kick me into gear!

In mid-May, I had an unfortunate accident. My foot slipped off of the top step of my staircase and I went down the entire flight of stairs like a sled. I crashed hard at the bottom. I dislocated my foot, broke my ankle, and had emergency surgery to repair my ankle. I’m extremely lucky that I didn’t have more serious injuries. All of the doctors in the ER told me so over and over again. Coming home from the hospital, I faced at least 2 months off of my feet, at least 3 months without driving privileges, and 6 months of PT. That ended my school year instantly. It ended a lot of things instantly. For someone who runs at 110% at all times, this was a shock to my system. My world came to a halt without warning. I could no longer be the mom, wife, and teacher that I was used to being.

I’d like to say that I’ve been taking advantage of my forced break (no pun intended) by being somewhat productive, but my motivation just hasn’t been there yet. I’ve spent most of my waking hours on the couch with my leg propped up and ankle iced while enjoying the spoils of the DVR and Netflix. I have thrown in the occasional video conference call and phone call related to ongoing projects, but I’ve mostly been a lump. I’m hoping to change that now and to be more productive for the remainder of the summer. I still can’t walk or drive, but I hope to spend less time in front of the TV and more time doing other things while seated. I hope to report back at the end of the summer with some accomplishments!

And now for your viewing pleasure, here are some photos of what I’ve been through!
