Never forget.

The victims of 9/11 (from Wikimedia Commons)

It’s hard to believe that it’s been 16 years since our nation’s most shocking tragedy. It’s even harder for me when I look out at my students today and realize that so many of them weren’t even alive when 9/11 happened. It is just another historical event to them. Talking to them about 9/11 is the equivalent of my parents telling me where they were when they heard JFK was assassinated.

As I reflect on today’s anniversary, I truly hope that my son never has to live through his own JFK or 9/11. I’m sure that it’s only wishful thinking, but I’d like to remain optimistic today. Never forget.
