2017 Massachusetts STEM Summit

On Tuesday, I attended the Massachusetts STEM Summit at the DCU Center in Worcester, MA. It was a great event with fantastic and inspiring keynote speakers! We heard from both Yvonne Spicer, Vice President of Advocacy & Educational Partnerships, National Center for Technological Literacy, Museum of Science (and Mayor-elect of Framingham, MA) and John C. Warner, President and Chief Technology Officer, The Warner Babcock Institute for Green Technology.

I was happy to be recognized as a finalist for the STEM Teacher of the Year, and spent a good amount of time with Kathleen Malone, the 2017 STEM Teacher of the Year. It turns out that we have similar backgrounds in business! That definitely solidifies my theory that STEM and business should be tied together more in education!

I attended sessions related to the new DLCS standards and licensure in Massachusetts (DLCS info here), guiding students to ask the right questions using the Question Formulation Technique (Right Question Institute), supported my superintendent in her presentation of how Mansfield partners with the community in STEM opportunities for our students, and roamed the expansive exhibit hall.
